Airealistic rigging and performance team is literally ‘gearing-up’ for a four day show with composer Veronika Krauses of USC Thornton School of Music. Merlin Larsen will be assisted by Gregg Curtis in a complex aerial installation piece.
This fall her chamber opera The Mortal Thoughts of Lady Macbeth will be produced in Los Angeles at Fais DO-DO, directed by Yuval Sharon (current assistant director to Achim Freyer’s RING cycle production with the LA Opera) and with former Cirque du Soleil acrobats. It was premiered at the New York Opera’s VOX 2008 festival and staged in San Francisco in 2009.
Krausas is an Assistant Professor in the Composition Department at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, a pre-concert lecturer at the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and an artist with Catalysis Projects.
We will be highlighting the choreograph of Bianca Sapetto, joined by Karl Baumann, and a full contingent of world-class performers, musicians and designers.
This is a ‘must-see’ piece of aerial theater that will give vivid visual description to an extremely dramatic piece of work. We look forward to seeing you there.
Merlin Larsen and Gregg Curtis where thrilled to add their talents to Bianca Sapetto’s amazing production at the Great Park in Irvine, CA. for the Jewel of Orange Event. Merlin and Gregg rigged a fly system for Bianca Sapetto and Russ Stark s spinning aerial duet. Gregg also doubled as the Emcee of the event. Performers included Nate Crawford on Cyr Wheel and trampoline, Eros the Stiltwalker, Leila on her giant Swan, a ballet duet. Robin Finck played live Guitar and sang to Bianca and Russ’ duet. The event was attended by over 1,000 philanthropists, politicians and prominent Orange County business-people who were treated to a surrealistic performance including the aerial portion, an art parade and finally a four act-dance and circus spectacle.
In the twilight hour, under the silhouette of a gigantic Orange, Hot-air balloon the crowd was treated to a festival of visual delights. Bianca’s choreography began in a 1930′s era airplane hangar, paraded outside onto an open field and finished at the future sight of the Parks’ Art & Culture Pavilion. The pace and movement of the show was exquisitely timed and the breath of the event allowed all to get swept away in the fantasy of the night.
Airealistic has begun teaching classes at Ventura’s pre-eminent ballet studio All American Ballet. Classes in Aerial Hammock and Static Trapeze are complimented with general acrobatics and body conditioning. Classes are Wed. & Thurs. at 1:00 & 2:00, but classes and private lessons will be made available to suit demand. The classes are part of the All American Ballet summer camp program and have rapidly helped to energize the camp. We began with 7 students in one class the first week and moved to 14 students by the third week in four classes. The demand for these classes is high and classes have been filling up quickly.
Students are taught basic movements on the apparatus and offered exercises that will increase their core strength. Plans to bring in special guest teachers Bianca Sapetto, Neal Everett, Autumn Phillips, Danilo Lambo, Russ Stark and others are underway. AS well Airealistic will begin teaching harness flying workshops with instructor Merlin Larsen and others.

AiRealistic’s aerial theater company team traveled to Marrakesh, Morocco to collaborate on the high-flying Cirque du Soleil action as the company celebrated the inauguration of “La Mamounia” Hotel. With Hollywood’s A-list showing up for the glamorous event, Airealistic stood out as Jennifer Aniston’s favorite piece in the show . Clad in experimental Fiber Optic costumes, AiRealistic performers Gwyneth Larsen and Gregg Curtis were self-lit as they dove off of the building and performed a vertical dance on the side of the balconies, designed by Merlin Larsen. Says Curtis “It was a terrific honor to reconnect with Cirque again and be a part of such a remarkable event. But the most exciting thing was that we were experimenting with a brand new Cirque costuming concept.”
